Sojitz Marine & Engineering Corporation, a shipping subsidiary of the Sojitz Corporation, is gearing up for a full-fledged advance into sales of ballast water treatment system. Behind this decision is the success of Sojitz Marine & Engineering in acquiring dealership rights domestically in Japan for the “Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS)” marine use ballast water treatment system manufactured by Ecochlor, Inc. of the United States. The first one of these systems for Japanese market will be mounted on an 83,000dwt Panamax-type bulk carrier owned by Sojitz that is scheduled for completion at the end of 2011.

Ecochlor, Inc. announced today that the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has approved its application for G9 Final Approval of the Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment System at the MEPC 61 meeting in London. The approval was received at the recommendation of the GESAMP-Ballast Water Working Group. GESAMP is the international Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection responsible for reviewing and recommending approval of these applications. The application was submitted on Ecochlor’s behalf by the German Federal Maritime Agency, BSH.

Ecochlor, Inc. announced today that the company has been issued a patent in Brazil for its Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment System, developed to remove unwanted organisms in ballast water. This is the fifth issued patent in Ecochlor’s patent portfolio.
